ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sure, Kyle Kalis will admit it: The Michigan guard is keeping tabs on Ohio State. In fact, Kalis is rooting for the second-ranked Buckeyes to keep winning until the third-ranked Wolverines visit the Buckeyes next month.I want them to win all the way until we play them, Kalis said Monday. I know some of the guys were wishing them to lose, which its hard not to. A little part of me was hoping theyd lose, but Im glad they won. I want them to make `The Game as meaningful as possible.Jim Harbaugh said he watched Ohio State win at No. 8 Wisconsin in overtime, but wasnt very forthcoming.I was just watching it as a fan, Harbaugh said. Two good football teams. While the Buckeyes were beating the Badgers, the Wolverines were enjoying the weekend off without a game. Michigan (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) hosts Illinois (2-4, 1-2) on Saturday.Harbaugh was working during his teams bye weekend and, of course, found a unique way to do it. At one game in California, he announced the schools homecoming queen. It was great to be part of the activity, Harbaugh said.At another game in California, Harbaugh held the down marker on the sideline because he said they needed a guy for the chain gang .I was promised a tri-tip sandwich at halftime, Harbaugh said. And that was all I needed to hear.Kalis, an Ohio native, who committed to Ohio State before choosing to attend Michigan, has been hearing from friends back home about the annual showdown game, one of the best rivalries in sports. The Wolverines have five more games before they play Nov. 26 at Ohio State, but that isnt stopping anyone from talking about the highly anticipated matchup. This is the time of year when you start getting texts saying, `The Game is coming near, Kalis said. Especially with where were ranked and where theyre ranked, its bound to happen. When we get there, its going to be a crazy atmosphere as it always is, but this year is turning out to be one to remember I feel like.Kalis insisted he has always paid the same amount of attention to Ohio State leading up to their matchup. This year, were doing so good expectations are just kind of different, he said. We just have to keep doing our job like we are and good things will happen.Michigan is going into the second half of the regular season with its highest ranking in a decade. The Wolverines were No. 3 in 2006 after losing at No. 1 Ohio State as the second-ranked team in the country. Kalis said the Wolverines have been climbing in the poll because they prepare like no one else, and have treated each game as if a championship is at stake. We want to go higher, Kalis said. The goal is to go as high as we can. We just need to continue what were doing and itll pay off.Michigan has been tested only once this season and it passed, beating Wisconsin 14-7. The Wolverines have had only had one other relatively close game, a 45-28 win over Colorado. In every other matchup, they have routed their opponent with ease.Harbaugh said playing another team his team is expected to dominate with emotionally charged games coming up -- including next week against rival at Michigan State -- isnt a concern of his as he prepares the Wolverines to play the Fighting Illini. Were just going to work and not worry, he said.---Online:College Football: http://collegefootball.ap.org---Follow Larry Lage at http://www.twitter.com/larrylage and follow his work at http://bigstory.ap.org/content/larry-lagePatrick Ewing Jersey . -- Teemu Selanne scored the first goal of his 22nd NHL season, and the Anaheim Ducks extended the best start in franchise history with their fifth straight victory, 3-2 over the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night. EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Miles Bridges provided a glimpse on Friday of what he can do when he gets rolling offensively. Michigan State coach Tom Izzo would like to see his team feed the ball to his freshman phenom more often.Bridges converted all but one of his 11 shots in the first half of a 100-53 victory over Mississippi Valley State. He scored only three points after halftime but finished the game with 24 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.Izzo wants to see the Spartans rely consistently on the talents of the 6-foot-7 Bridges, rather than take 28 3-point shots, as it did on Friday. They will get another chance on Sunday when the No. 13 Spartans host Florida Gulf Coast.I am not looking for that at all, Izzo said of the 3-point shots. Im really looking to get the ball to Miles inside a little more.Bridges bounced back from a six-point, nine-turnover performance against No. 2 Kentucky earlier in the week.He became more of a normal human being at the start of the second half, Izzo said. I like him abnormal, personally. And thats what I told him at the end. We just gotta keep that fire. But he was never lazy, maybe the competitiveness, the want to win games, is there. But the competitiveness, the want to score or rebound, make assists, be aggressive, I thought dropped off a little bit in the second half.Although Izzo wants to pound the ball inside, the Spartans top perimeter threats regained their strokes. Senior Eron Harris and sophomore Matt McQuaid drained five 3-pointers apiece against the Delta Devils. The Spartans (1-2) need to get in a groove with three upcoming games from Wednesday through Friday at the Battle 4 Atlantis tournamentt in the Bahamas.dddddddddddd.Were ready to go into the next game, Harris said. Were feeling good right now. We need to get back-to-back wins so we can go into the Bahamas feeling good.Everything happened for us (Friday), but we still can improve. We still need to play better defense, we need to rebound the ball, and we need to take care of the ball a little better, too.The Eagles (1-2) figure to offer more resistance to the Spartans than winless Mississippi Valley. They gave Baylor a tough battle on Friday, losing on the road 81-72.Florida Gulf Coast trailed by 10 at the half but was down only one with less than three minutes remaining.Baylor did a good job in the first half of throwing the ball inside and putting us on our heels, Eagles coach Joe Dooley said. A lot of those buckets that they got -- and the reason they shot such a high percentage -- was because we turned over too many live-ball situations.Guard Brandon Goodwin, who leads the club with a 20.0 average, had a team-high 22 points against the Bears and guard Zach Johnson (15.7 average per game) added 17.The Eagles have been playing without their top returning scorer and rebounder, Marc-Eddy Norelia, who is recovering from a broken left hand.Baylor still needed a late 9-0 run to put them away, which should put the Spartans on notice. We regrouped in the second half and had our defense a little bit more situated, Dooley said. We got into a better offensive flow. At the end, they made some plays and picked up a couple loose balls under the basket. ' ' '
