LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Louisville used a big start to the second half to break away Saturday.Asia Durr scored a career-high 34 points in less than three quarters and No. 5 Louisville beat Bowling Green 83-58 in the first game of the Basketball Hall of Fame Challenge. The Cardinals (4-0) used an 18-2 run over the first 2:36 of the second half to break it open. Durr, a sophomore guard, scored the first 13 points herself to make it 49-27 with 8:29 left in the third quarter.Every time we came down the court, they were trying to find me, the 5-foot-10 Durr said. I knocked them down. I was thankful for that. Some poor first-half shooting by Louisville, which made just 5 of 21 shots in the second quarter, allowed the Falcons to stay close throughout the first half. But when Louisville went on its run in the third, Bowling Green helped by committing 14 of its 32 turnovers during the quarter.Durr, who came to Louisville as the top-rated recruit in her class and won Parade Magazines High School Player of the Year award in 2015, went 8 of 13 from 3-point range to top her previous career high of seven. She left the game with 4:30 to go in the third quarter. Her previous scoring best was 24 points, which came in the season opener at Tennessee-Martin.At this time last season, Durr was experiencing pain after going through surgery to repair a torn groin muscle. The pain was so bad that it limited her game, and Louisville coaches considered redshirting her.Its amazing to watch just from last year and to see how shes playing right now, forward Myisha Hines-Allen said. Shes grown so much with her confidence. I knew she was a great player already, but just to see this -- actually playing with her on the court -- is amazing. Not everything went well though for Louisville. The Cardinals lost the rebounding battle 40-39 and allowed 11 offensive boards in the second half. Thats an issue of concern for coach Jeff Walz. When we start playing some teams that have some size to them, its going to be a long night, he said.Clare Glowniak led the Falcons (0-3) with 11 points.Hines-Allen added 13 for Louisville, which shot 45.5 percent, compared with Bowling Greens 35.2 percent.BIG PICTURELouisville: The margin could have been a lot wider, but coach Jeff Walz chose to use his bench heavily to save his starters for the next two days, when they play two more games as part of the challenge.Bowling Green: For the second straight contest, a big run haunted the Falcons, who let a fourth-quarter lead disappear against Cincinnati on Tuesday.SHE SAID ITWe played an elite level team today that can rebound at the elite level, that can press at an elite level. This is a team thats going to go to the Final Four. -- Bowling Green coach Jennifer Roos.LETDOWNAfter making 9 of 14 shots and scoring 27 in a 91-72 win at Middle Tennessee Wednesday, Mariya Moore struggled. The junior forward made just 1 of 9 Saturday, but she still found other ways to contribute as she posted a team-best six assists.POLL IMPLICATIONSDespite some early shooting woes, Louisville came out on fire in the third quarter and put the Falcons away as expected. As long as the Cardinals dont experience any hiccups later on this weekend, their ranking should remain the same.UP NEXTLouisville hosts Lafayette on Sunday.Bowling Green plays Chattanooga on Sunday in Louisville. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The Dolphins can relax Sunday, watch some football and know they kept themselves in a strong position to make the playoffs.Miamis 34-13 rout of the New York Jets on Saturday night was its eighth win in nine games. At 9-5, the Dolphins guaranteed themselves a winning record for the first time in eight years and put some pressure on other wild-card contenders such as Denver, Baltimore, Houston and/or Tennessee to keep winning. Not that coach Adam Gase or backup quarterback Matt Moore -- who, with Ryan Tannehill (knee) sidelined, threw for four touchdowns in his first start since Jan. 1, 2012 -- are concentrating on the playoff chase.Well, at least thats what they claimed.I dont know if were worried really about final records or anything right now, said first-year head coach Gase. Our guys are focused on just making sure whatever opponent we have next, that we come out of that week 1-0.Moore seconded that mantra. Its good right now, but weve got to keep the focus and keep going, said Moore, who completed only 12 throws, but saw receivers Jarvis Landry and Kenny Stills break long TDs. Guys obviously know whats on the table and whats out there. Well enjoy this one and get back on to next week. That would be at Buffalo, followed by hosting New England, which figures to have the AFC East and possibly home-field advantage throughout the playoffs wrapped up by then. Should Miami get to 11 wins, it almost certainly will get into the Super Bowl chase.Other takeaways from Miamis manhandling of the Jets (4-10):CANT STOP CAMCameron Wake, in the midst of a terrific season, was the best defensive player on the field. He had only two tackles, but one was a sack on which he forced Bryce Pettys fumble that Ndamukong Suh recovered.Wake was at the center of a pass rush that often overwhelmed New Yorks undermanned offensive line, and led to three sacks. His crowning moment was the first interception of his eight-year career. Were having a lot of fun out there, Wake said. Obviously, Im not back in coverage very often, so that was a new one for me, but the ball was there. I had to go back to my linebacker days.Gase believes Wake simply knows how to grab the spotlight.I think when you have a player of his ability that has played as long as he has, he has that knack for timing, Gase said. I know him intercepting, hes dropping into a zone blitz. Sometimes when youre a quarterback, you just dont see the guy, you dont anticiipate that guy being in that spot.ddddddddddddGase was puzzled before the game when he saw Wake doing some ball drills.I was watching him catch balls in warmups, he said, thinking to myself, `Why is he catching balls in warmups? And all of a sudden, I look up and he picks one off. So maybe he knew something that I didnt.BLAME BOWLESThe Jets had plenty of mistakes, bad decisions and poorly executed plays to go around, but coach Todd Bowles insisted on shouldering the blame .You dont explain it, Bowles said. Its all on me. I did a terrible job, as far as getting these guys ready to play. We were ready to play in the first half, but the second half, me being the head coach of this team and us not looking very good right now, its all a direct reflection on me.I take full responsibility.PETTYS CHESTPetty was knocked out of the game on the first play of the fourth quarter when he got sandwiched by Wake and Suh as he completed a 28-yard pass down the right sideline to Robby Anderson.X-rays at the stadium were negative, but Petty was scheduled to have a CT scan on Sunday to make sure he doesnt have a bruised or punctured lung.Ill be good, Petty said. A little sore right now, but Ill be fine.POWELLS SURGEWith starting running back Matt Forte nursing a torn meniscus in his right knee -- he had four carries for 21 yards and one reception for 7 -- Bilal Powell looked quick and shifty as a receiver and runner. The sixth-year pro came off a 145-yard, two-TD performances at San Francisco to rush 16 times for 84 yards and catch 11 of the 12 passes thrown his way for 78 yards. With Forte ailing and little depth at the position, Powell figures to be quite busy in the final two games, against New England and Buffalo.QUICK TURNAROUNDStaff at MetLife Stadium had quite a challenge this weekend with the Dolphins-Jets game followed at 1 p.m. Sunday by Lions-Giants. Throw in a snowstorm that hit the area early Saturday morning and clearing parking lots at the massive complex added to their jobs. The end zones did not have the Jets logo painted on them Saturday night, and remained with diagonal lines for Sundays game.
